Company history
Digital Learning, founded in December 2004, is an e-learning development company based in Winnipeg, Canada. The two founding partners - Jody Baty and Guy Dugas - are both seasoned Computer Science instructors who are able to apply their strong technology background and classroom experience to the design and creation of engaging e-learning solutions. Digital Learning treats e-Learning as an evidence based practice. This means making instructional design and tool development decisions based on research evidence.
Why we started Digital Learning
Digital Learning started out primarily as a creative outlet for its two founding partners. It was meant to serve as a vehicle to allow us to 'play with' and implement exciting new educational technologies, while hopefully being able to recoup some of the costs. Our first few projects were met with more success that we'd ever anticipated, and this has been the catalyst for the rapid growth and expansion that we've experienced since the company's inception in December 2004.
The Future
Moving development from PHP to Ruby on Rails in 2007 has allowed us to greatly increase our speed of implementation, and to move our development team beyond myMaps towards a full suite of curriculum tools, including myNeedsAssessments and myLearningProjects . Digital Learning prides itself in deploying sophisticated, database-backed Web applications that leverage the latest technologies such as Ruby on Rails and Ajax.
